Hours come by in neutral shades,
anonymous guests
unannounced,
faded place names
on discoloured lace
table cloths,
bone china promises
and Earl Grey tea,
just empty cups
that gaze at me.

Shadows creep across the carpet,
hardly perceptible
interlopers,
running dark fingers
over Regency
mahogany,
portraits of yesterday
grimly defined,
so wearily patient
and perfectly blind.

Tired slowly fading embers paint
faintly glowing scenes,
delicate
dancing images
in burnished brass,
relected
with such elegance
upon the dying day,
to whisper for a final time
then softly slip away...

Keith, good to have you back! I very much enjoyed this short, but expressive verse; it swept me, in mind, to the manor house it seems you're describing in such finely detailed, graphic elegance. Very well done. You've a commendable talent, sir! Many thanks for sharing it. No improvements necessary, in my small opinion, and only a minor typo overlooked. Line 26: missing "f" in 'reflected.'

Keep them coming, if you please, Sir!
