There was a little bluebird, her name was Bonnie-Sue
She loved to fly high in the sky, and do what birdies do
She'd ruffle up her feathers, and preen them till they're clean
Then she'd soar up in the air, till barely she was seen

She could spin and twist about, with pirouetting ease
Then she'd float upon her back, atop the highest trees
Singing out her warbled songs, as she made her way
How she loved the view from there, whether night or day

One of her favorite things to do, besides her love to fly
Was to nestle on a branch, and watch the passers-by
She'd snuggle in behind some leaves, completely out of sight
Then she'd wait for come-what-may, and watch with great delight

Maybe a bunny scampering, then stops a while to eat
He has found a clover patch, his favorite bunny treat
Perhaps she'd spy a butterfly, with multi-colored wings
Resting upon a daffodil, after a rain in Spring

Once she got the chance to view, a little girl at play
Unaware that she was there, she heard the child say
' Oh I wish I had a friend, to play along with me '
'I'm all alone here by myself, I want some company'

At this she soon decides to chance, and fly down to the ground
She flutters softly from the tree, with very little sound
'Hi, I'm Bonnie-Sue' she says, 'I'll stay and play with you'
'If you would like to climb my tree, I'll show you what I do'

With this the little girl smiled wide, and nodded yes her head
Then climbed up high into the tree, and sat where she was led
Bonnie-Sue took off in flight, and did what she did best
This was the first of many days, the two would share this nest

Unlikely though you may first think, this friendship ever be
One never knows just what they'll find, or what they'll ever see
Is it design or be it chance, that we discover friends
I think it's both whenever we, decide to take the chance

Friends are friends regardless, where they might be found
They may be up in the sky, or right there on the ground
The story here that I have told , may or not be true
I just hope you will recall, if ever you are blue

Dear Marlys:

What a delightful story poem and I just love your Bonnie-Sue. Keep your writes coming.....can tell the muse has struck! And yes, I can recall my own little sparrow who came nightly to her little cubby on my patio, seeking refuge from the cold....in time she found her loved one and they flew away to where it was warmer.

Thank you Helen..I think we miss great opportunities for friendship when we limit ourselves to where and who we may be great friends with..take a chance to get to know someone..we find friends in the most unlikely places!

The first thing I thought when I was reading, was, this is really good, you know, you should write a childrens book of poems, this is entertaining, made me smile, and to children, would introduce them to poetry that they might never have read.
You have a talent for writing in a very entertaining way, and your drawing mirrors the enchanting humor you have!!

So cute story, I really loved it, my son is a great fan of this blog, he enjoys reading these stories and poems. It is a great idea of this best writing services to make children to write such amazing stories. I appreciate their parents for encouraging their children to write poems. It is a very good habit and do encourage them and make them happy.
