Old Yellow Bricks

This is a track from the Arctic Monkeys' album Favourite Worst Nightmare. Now, I'm not a huge fan of the Monkeys, (although some of their stuff is pretty good if you like that kind of music) but I loved this song. I have these cycles where I listen to the same song on continuous loop for about three weeks, then I hate it for about five months, then I'll love it again. At the moment, I've got this on loop, but when I get sick of it, I'll probably post a second review emphasising all its rubbishy points XD Stay tuned!Starting with a moody (yet strangely upbeat) riff which makes you want to start air-guitaring right there and then, the lead singer with his adorable accent starts to tell us about his friend's desire to leave for 'a place better than this'. Moving on, we get to the catchy chorus with its infectious 'You're a fugitive but you don't know what you're runnin' from'. This is accompanied by a different riff, but keeps the same beat, which is an odd and slightly off-putting (for me) move, but hey. There's a transition to a slightly more heavy metal style of music at the end of the piece, presumably to put across the young musicians' anger at being stuck in a boring town, but it does little to distract from the overall greatness of the song, thank god. XD
