Avatar directed by James Cameron is about a marine (Jake Sully played by Sam Worthington http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0941777/) who loses the use of his legs. His twin brother is a scientist who is working on a project that allows a person to stream their consciousness into an alien body grown from both human and alien DNA that looks like the people inhabitating the planet Pandora.

In the story, Jake is hired on to replace his brother on the planet Pandora since his DNA is similar enough to allow him to use his brother's Avatar. His mission is to make friends with the indigenous population (the Na'vi) in order to help the company who hired him gain a precious substance (worth $20 million a kilo) from the forests of Pandora.

The screenplay is simply awesome, the special effects superb enough to make you wonder sometimes what is real, and the story is one that if it doesn't tug at your heart means you are just too cold. It has romance, it has courage in the face of unbeatable odds, it has betrayal, it has fight scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0757855/), the daughter of the chief of the Na'vi steals the show with her honest and raw emotions. Neytiri is in love with her people, her world, and her life. She is fierce and uncompromising in that love.

Sigourney Weaver adds to the movie with her portrayal of the genius scientist who falls in love with the people she is studying.

Other notable performances are Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, the hard bitten marine who is in charge of security on Pandora. Giovanni Ribisi as the company executive in charge of Pandora and who is slightly conflicted between dealing harshly with the Na'vi and getting his job done, but in the end chooses his job over what he knows is right. Michelle Rodriguez as a marine pilot who's tough exterior belies her heart made of gold.

If you thought 'The Return of the King' was without peer, you need to watch Avatar. I am pretty sure it will change your opinion. It did mine!
